USA Defeats El Salvador in Nations Cup Final Oct 8, 2008 02:06 PM
Three skillful goals propel USA to Title in Inaugural Nations Capital Cup.
The United States, represented by the Aegean Hawks Football Club from the Washington Premier League, defeated a skillful, but worn down El Salvadorian side in a 90-minute battle at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. Goals by Corey Curnette (Assisted by Watson Vaughan-Prather), Alan Golden (unassisted), and Adam Simon (Assisted by Justin Bodiya) of the Hawks in the second half proved too much for El Salvador to handle.
The atmosphere leant to some great football as more than 6,000 fans stuck around after DC United fell to Chivas USA in MLS action. A successful tournament in it's first year, the Nation's Capital Cup is sure to grow in popularity in years to come. Thanks to BDO Seidman, Tony Cord, and Matt Wassum for making this event a reality. Enjoy photos from the championship below and discuss the tournament in the forum here.
Some quality competition came out of the woodwork for this tournament. It would be nice to see some European representation next year to show these teams how footie is supposed to be played.
