With all the sports hubbub going on these days, with the baseball playoffs, college and pro Throwball and the preseason of the NBA, a sports fan might be forgiven for overlooking the last weeks of the MLS season, and they would be wrong to be looking the other way.

With most teams having two games to play, this weekend is crucial as there is no team in MLS that is mathematically excluded from the playoffs, including the expansion San Jose Earthquakes 2.0.  Some teams like Dallas and New York, more or less control their own destiny, but even the L.A. Galaxy have a chance to make the playoffs with two wins and some help.

This weekend might see some teams finally eliminated--see the aforementioned Galaxy and Quakes and Toronto in the east.

The game to watch this weekend is the Dallas-Real Salt Lake Game.  The winner of that game will almost assuredly make the playoffs.  Dallas has gotten a couple of lucky breaks in the past two weeks, and Real Salt lake is playing in their new Stadium and the atomosphere should be electric.  Both teams still stand a chance of making the playoffs depending on how New York does against Columbus and Kansas City fares against San Jose.

With the return of the Premier Leage, Serie A and other Eurpoean leagues, the temption might be to watch those matches and that is one the could be ignored this weekend with justification.

Last weekend was exciting, but by far the most anticipated game of the year has to be RSL vs. Colorado this Saturday. RSL draws or wins and they advance to their first playoff appearance in club history. Gotta predict Kreiss will have his team prepared for this game.

"Help." I don't want to say it would be a shame to see the MLS Cup Winners be one of these teams that had to depend on others' misfortune to even make the post-season, but it really does water down the purpose of the regular season if a sub-500 team can still hoist the cup.

I can't believe no one has been officially eliminated yet. I guess the good thing is that the regular season still holds meaning until the very last game even if mediocrity was the train some teams roll in on.
